Women were not allowed to run the Boston Marathon in 1967. Kathrine Switzer dodged that rule, and became the first woman to finish despite organizers trying to stop her. I can only assume she signed up as a man in order to get an official bib number.

Not allowing a woman to run in a marathon is a disgrace. It irks me to see those two men accosting her as she finishes the race. "You've come a long way baby" !!!
